The Best Tropical Birthday Party Ideas for Kids
Summer is here - which means it’s time to celebrate summer parties at the pool or with anything that involves water. And, of course tropical vibes are always a top favorite for summer parties including birthdays. So, when my client’s daughter was turning 10, I gave her the best tropical birthday party in her own backyard.
Come along as I take you through the entire tropical birthday party which was designed with lots of palm leaves, pineapples and flamingos for the biggest tropical feel. Tropical colors were chosen in hot pink, lime green, aqua blue, orange and white. Key areas that I designed included the ever popular dessert table, the photo booth which is always a kid favorite, the drink station and food table. Other design areas included the popsicle stand, welcome and gift tables, party favors, adult drink area and the tropical decorations throughout the backyard.
Photo Booth Time
Let's start with the super fun photo area that was set up on the patio of my client's backyard. We hung a beach towel on top of the white draped fabric and of course included lots of inflatable flamingos, an inflatable pool and the cutest palm tree blow-up. And, the flamingos served double-duty as a toss game since there were inflatable rings with them.
Drink Station
I'm all about the little details and with a tropical theme, there's so much fun to add into the set-ups. At the drink station I spray-painted pineapples pink for unexpected decor, placed a succulent into a pineapple planter and of course had to include super cute flamingo and pineapple honeycombs on the drink straws. An oversized "drinks" lettered sign was hung over extra large palm leaves above the drinks.
Oversized Decorations
Since balloons complete a party - I had to create several balloon garlands and displays with them (you'll see the one at the dessert station in a bit). Guests were welcomed to the party by not only a large lawn decoration by Card My Yard wishing Whitney a Happy Birthday, there was also a large number 10 balloon installation in pink ombré colored balloons by Ballooms.
Snack Bar
For easy quick and go snacking - we filled up a Minnidip inflatable pool with crackers and popcorn.
Dessert Table
And, now we get to my ultimate favorite part of the party - the dessert table and this one had so much tropical sweetness. We had a pineapple donut wall with cute pineapple toppers in cinnamon sugar donuts. There were pineapple macarons, cupcakes with cute flamingo toppers, cookies and even cookies on sticks that included palm leaves and letters spelling out "ten" for Whitney's very special birthday celebration. And, we can't forget about the two-tiered cake with a scalloped layer and a flamingo topping the side of the top layer. For the finishing touch on the dessert table area - I included large letters that said "Whitney is 10" and surrounded them with a large balloon garland in the party colors with various sizes of balloons. In between the balloons, I tucked in paper magnolia blooms, flamingos and palm leaves.
Popsicle Bar
Another cute element we incorporated into the party was a tiki style popsicle bar with a cooler that we placed under a straw umbrella.
Additional Tropical Party Details
I also included extra fun details throughout the tropical birthday party which created fun everywhere guests went. There were cute signs with tropical sayings on them and pineapples in unexpected displays . . . like the extra tall stacked pineapple sculpture and pineapples with glasses.
A little bit more of some of the decorated areas around the backyard, just because if you are like me, you will enjoy them!
